About Maria C. Abenes, Ed.D.

Dr. Maria Abenes is passionate about helping marginalized populations with recovery, family reunification, emotional issues, and coping skills. Dr. Abenes has more than 20 years of experience working with adults, at-risk youth substance abuse, gang involvement, self-harm, eating disorders, and domestic violence. Her approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy, individual and group therapy, and psychological testing. A Filipino woman leader, Dr. Abenes is an advocate for the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders community. She is the executive director of the Young Women’s Christian Association, director of the Transitional Age Youth Programs for Hillsides, and a case manager at drug and alcohol treatment facilities for adolescents. Dr. Abenes enjoys iced coffee, chocolate, music, and good hikes.
