About Byalinah Shakir-Burgess, LCMHC

Byalinah encourages clients to be patient, to be kind to themselves and to trust the process. She treats each client as an individual and meets them where they are. Often using humor to ease tension and lighten the mood, Ms. Shakir-Burgess enjoys building rapport and helping people feel supported. When working with clients, she helps them identify natural support systems, set healthy boundaries, develop coping skills and process issues. Using active listening, empathy and unconditional positive regard, her collaborative approach to care focuses on building resiliency. With an impactful, far-reaching and varied career, Byalinah has experience working as a social worker, family counselor, lead teaching parent, in-home counselor and as the program director for a teen crisis shelter. Passionately devoted to improving people’s lives, she works to give people the appropriate services they need to be successful in life, be those counseling services, educational resources or community initiatives.

Tropical Storm Isaias is headed towards the Carolinas. Please note that we plan to be open for appointments; however, be aware that power outages may be widespread which may impact telehealth and other appointments. We may not know until the last minute in all of our locations on Tuesday. Please be patient. We will waive missed appointment charges on Tuesday, August 4th in light of complications from the weather. If you and your provider are unable to connect, we will reach out to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible.
